BIO
Adam Deitch is one of the most versatile, forward-thinking drummers in modern music—a rare breed of player who seamlessly bridges the worlds of jazz, funk, hip-hop, and electronic music with authentic groove, precision, and creativity.
Born in New York City and raised in a musical family (his parents were both accomplished musicians), Deitch was exposed to a rich mix of genres from an early age. He studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, but his real education came from playing in live settings—where he quickly developed a reputation for his deep pocket and ability to adapt to any musical environment.
Deitch’s drumming first gained wide attention through his work with John Scofield, where his funky yet sensitive playing brought a new edge to the legendary guitarist’s fusion sound. From there, Deitch went on to co-found Lettuce, the high-octane funk band that has become a mainstay of modern jam and groove scenes. His drumming with Lettuce is a masterclass in dynamics, syncopation, and ensemble chemistry.
In addition to his live playing, Deitch is a prolific producer and beat-maker, often blurring the lines between live drums and programmed rhythms. His project Break Science showcases this hybrid style, merging glitchy electronic textures with live funk drumming to stunning effect.
Over the years, Adam Deitch has worked with a dizzying array of artists including 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, AWB, Pretty Lights, and Soulive, proving his ability to shape-shift across genres while still delivering his signature feel. Whether he’s laying down breakbeats in the studio or lighting up the stage with Lettuce’s explosive sets, Deitch always brings surgical timing, expressive dynamics, and a deep understanding of groove.
Deitch also gives back to the drumming community through masterclasses, online content, and educational initiatives—making him not only a performer but an influencer and mentor in the broader drumming world.
