BIO

Kenny Aronoff is one of the most recorded and respected drummers in rock history, known for his explosive energy, unshakable groove, and commanding stage presence. With a career spanning more than four decades, Aronoff has built a reputation as the ultimate sideman—an elite session and touring drummer whose work ethic and precision have made him a go-to for music legends across genres.

Born in Albany, New York in 1953, Aronoff was classically trained at Indiana University’s prestigious Jacobs School of Music before making his mark in the rock world. His big break came in 1980, when he joined John Mellencamp’s band. Aronoff’s rock-solid playing became a signature part of Mellencamp’s chart-topping hits like “Jack and Diane,” “Pink Houses,” and “Crumblin’ Down.” His drum intro on “Jack and Diane” is one of the most iconic in classic rock history.

Aronoff’s signature sound—tight, punchy, and aggressive—led to countless calls from top-tier artists. He has recorded and toured with an astonishing list of names, including The Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Seger, Melissa Etheridge, Jon Bon Jovi, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, and Willie Nelson. His ability to adapt to rock, pop, country, and beyond has made him a rare drummer who can thrive in any musical context.

Beyond his session work, Aronoff is a sought-after speaker and educator, known for his intense focus on discipline, professionalism, and mindset. He’s shared his approach to life and music in clinics around the world and in his book, “Sex, Drums, Rock ’n’ Roll! The Hardest Hitting Man in Show Business.”

Whether behind the kit or behind a mic, Kenny Aronoff continues to inspire with his drive, adaptability, and raw power. He is the definition of a working drummer at the highest level.
