Todd Sucherman, born on May 2, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois, is a renowned American drummer best known for his work with the rock band Styx. Growing up in a musical family, Todd was influenced by his father, Arnold J. Sucherman, a doctor by day and a big band drummer by night, who played in the house band at Chicago’s famed Chez Paree club during the 1940s and ’50s. Todd began playing drums at the age of two and had his first paying gig at six with his brothers in “The Sucherman Brothers” band.

After attending the Berklee College of Music from 1987 to 1988, Sucherman returned to Chicago, quickly establishing himself as a sought-after session musician. In 1995, he began working with Styx, initially recording an updated version of “Lady” for their Greatest Hits album. Following the passing of original drummer John Panozzo in 1996, Sucherman became a full-time member of the band, contributing to numerous albums and tours over the past two decades.

Beyond Styx, Sucherman has collaborated with artists such as Brian Wilson, Peter Cetera, and Spinal Tap. He is also a respected educator, conducting masterclasses and clinics worldwide. His instructional video series, “Methods & Mechanics,” has received critical acclaim for its educational value.

In 2020, Sucherman released his debut solo album, “Last Flight Home,” showcasing his skills not only as a drummer but also as a vocalist and songwriter. The album reflects his deep musical influences and personal expression.

Sucherman’s contributions to music have been recognized with several accolades, including being voted the number one Rock Drummer in the World by Modern Drummer Magazine in 2009 and the number one Live Drummer in 2020.
